We nearly said ‘sod it’ and came home………….

by backpackingbongos

We found out this weekend that it can snow in June in the Lakes!  Along with being very wet, windy and generally miserable.  One Laser comp broken (mine) and an essential part of Richards blown away in the wind.  Luckily we did not cave in to our cravings to be dry and we had a great time once the weather began behaving itself.  I will post a trip report later in the week as I need a long hot soak in the bath!

Snow in June?

by backpackingbongos

Just checked the mountain weather service for the Lakes this weekend.  A bit weird seeing that snow is forecast on the higher fells especially as last weekend was such a scorcher!  If you have never used it mwis is well worth checking out.

To Bivvy or to camp?

by backpackingbongos

Thankfully the weekend is fast approaching which means that not long until our Lake District backpack.  Typically the weather for the weekend is for heavy showers and much colder nights.  This means the prospect of a bivvy (wordpress spell check wants me to change this to bevvy) on a mountain top is not looking as appealing as it did a couple of days ago when the sun was shinning!  I think being safely sealed up in a tent is going to be a much more fun option.  Still aiming to pitch on a summit both Fri and Sat night.  If you see two bearded men wondering around the Great Moss in upper Eskdale say hello!
